Today, over 4,000 public housing residents together with Chelsea neighbors are fighting
to stop a plan by NYCHA and Related Companies to demolish all 24 buildings over 15-
to-25-years and use 70% of the land to build market rate apartments for the rich and
build super-tall towers on the avenues. They are facing imminent relocation and
possible eviction on October 26, 2025.
The Chelsea Public Housing Legal Defense Fund, a coalition of residents and allies, is
waging a multi-level campaign to halt or derail the project that includes public hearings,
meetings with elected officials, articles in the press, protest rallies and marches, and
most important of all, legal action to protect residents and prevent any evictions as well
as stopping the demolition project. Community Board 4 has joined us in the fight.
All of these actions are working, but as you know legal defense costs money. Please,
consider making a contribution to help us finance this important work to save public
housing and our community.
A donation of any amount will help, and if you give before October 15th, all donations
will be matched dollar for dollar. You can double the impact of your gift and help us
save Chelsea and the homes of our NYCHA neighbors.
